Promoting IT Careers: VOSS Hosts “Hacker School @your school” Program

The VOSS Group, headquartered in Wipperfürth, is committed to fostering digital skills among young people. In collaboration with the non-profit educational initiative Hacker School, VOSS hosted the “Hacker School @your school” program at its corporate headquarters. The first session took place in early April with a programming workshop for students from St. Angela Gymnasium in Wipperfürth and continued with additional partner schools through the end of May.

Wipperfürth, 11 April 2025 – The shortage of skilled professionals remains one of the most pressing challenges across industries. There is growing demand for talent that combines technical expertise with strong digital competencies. Programming and IT skills are becoming increasingly important across a wide range of professions.

To spark early interest in digital technologies and provide students with first-hand insights into IT careers, VOSS partnered with Hacker School to launch a series of hands-on workshops in Wipperfürth. Through interactive coding sessions, students explored the basics of programming, developed foundational technical skills, and discovered their own interests in the world of IT.

"At VOSS, we place great value on nurturing the next generation and giving them tangible insights into our industry. With the Hacker School, we help young people discover their passions early on and actively support them in choosing a career path,” said Sacha Dannewitz, Head of IT & Digitalization at VOSS.

A Day in the Life of an IT Specialist – Fun, Games, and Programming at VOSS

The courses were led by dedicated working students and IT apprentices from the VOSS IT department, supported by the HR team. No prior knowledge was required. Using the visual programming language Scratch, students created their own version of the popular game Flappy Bird. Many participants impressed with their existing tech skills and showed great enthusiasm during the creative process.

In addition to technical input, the students also got personal insights into the career paths of the young VOSS team members – learning firsthand what opportunities the IT industry and VOSS in particular can offer for their future.

Exploring VOSS as an Employer

Four sessions have already taken place. In addition to St. Angela Gymnasium and Hermann-Voss-Realschule, a workshop was also held with the municipal Engelbert-von-Berg-Gymnasium.

The program was designed from the outset as a collaboration with local schools in Wipperfürth. Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, VOSS will continue its involvement in the Hacker School and expand the initiative to reach even more students. Additional events are already being planned.

Shaping the Future at VOSS: From Student to Apprentice

The goal of the course is not only to spark interest in IT but also to serve as an entry point for young talent. For students inspired by the Hacker School to pursue a career in IT, VOSS offers two apprenticeship tracks: IT Specialist for Application Development and IT Specialist for Data and Process Analysis. Both programs combine in-depth technical training with practical experience and open the door to a wide range of opportunities in a future-ready profession.
