Thermal management for railways: VOSS Fluid presents smart solutions for battery-electric vehicles
From September 22 to 25, 2026, the systems supplier will showcase innovative fluid management systems for rail vehicle technology at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin.
Wipperfürth, September 2026 - The rail system is being electrified. This is also fundamentally changing the technical requirements. Battery-electric propulsion systems are no longer used exclusively in regional passenger transport. They power freight locomotives, hybrid vehicles, and other applications where energy efficiency and climate-friendly mobility are key priorities. At the same time, with each new generation of vehicles, the importance of effective thermal management grows. This is because the performance, service life, and operational safety of modern battery systems depend crucially on precise temperature control.
At InnoTrans 2026, VOSS Fluid will demonstrate how these challenges can be mastered with intelligent fluid management systems. The focus will be on solutions for thermal management in battery-electric rail vehicles, as well as proven line and connection systems for hydraulic and pneumatic applications.
Liquid cooling as a key technology
Higher charging and discharging rates mean more heat. Liquid cooling distributes this heat evenly throughout the battery system, thereby ensuring performance, service life, and operational safety. At the same time, modern high-voltage electrical systems place high demands on fluid management. Installation space is limited, pressure losses must be minimized, and the highest level of reliability is essential. VOSS brings many years of experience in thermal management for the automotive sector to these projects. For many years, the company has been developing line and connection systems for demanding coolant circuits and is specifically applying this expertise to the requirements of battery-electric rail vehicles. This is not just about individual components, but about the combination of fluid routing, connection technology, and system design.
For rail applications, VOSS develops scalable system solutions that can be flexibly adapted to different vehicle and battery designs. At the heart of these solutions is the VOSS quick connect system 270, which was developed specifically for modern cooling circuits and can be customized to integrate into various thermal management designs.
The transition takes time
The mobility transition doesn’t happen overnight. That is why, in addition to thermal management solutions for battery-electric rail vehicles, VOSS also offers electrically heated SCR line systems for diesel-powered vehicles. These systems ensure that the AdBlue® urea solution is reliably delivered even at low temperatures and effectively support nitrogen oxide reduction. In doing so, VOSS demonstrates its commitment to supporting customers as a development partner, regardless of the specific propulsion technology.
Proven connection technology for rail vehicles
In addition to solutions for new drive concepts, VOSS is showcasing its extensive portfolio of line and connection systems for hydraulic and pneumatic applications. The 24° tube fitting series, manufactured from steel and stainless steel in accordance with ISO 8434-1 and DIN 2353, has proven itself in rail vehicle technology for many years.
The VOSSRingM cutting ring system, in particular, stands out for its easy installation, high leakage resistance, and consistently reliable connections. For long-term corrosion protection, VOSS also offers the VOSS coat surface coating, which protects the connection technology even under demanding operating conditions, reduces maintenance requirements and lifecycle costs. In addition, the VOSSRingM offers a special advantage: if necessary, the steel cutting ring can also be used on stainless steel tubes, thus providing additional flexibility in material selection.
The portfolio is rounded out by medium- and high-pressure lines made of steel, stainless steel, and ZISTAPLEX®, as well as hose and stainless steel braided hose solutions. Together, they form the foundation for reliable hydraulic and pneumatic systems and are used, among other things, in vehicle control, braking, and chassis systems, as well as in numerous other safety-critical applications in modern rail vehicles.
