VOSS Wins KSK Sustainability Award
The VOSS Group, headquartered in Wipperfürth, has been honored with the Sustainability Award of the Kreissparkasse Köln. The company impressed the jury with a pioneering project for the innovative use of industrial waste heat. At its Wipperfürth site, VOSS uses waste heat from metal-cutting machines to heat office buildings with the help of efficient heat pump technology. This approach is a key component of the company's ambitious strategy to achieve climate-neutral operations by 2035.

Wipperfürth, 30. Juli 2025 – Sustainability is no longer a “nice to have” but a vital element of future-proof business. Companies are looking for ways to use energy more efficiently and reduce CO₂ emissions. With its project to optimize heat supply, VOSS has taken a promising step forward – and was recognized for it with the KSK Sustainability Award.
"The consistent use of industrial waste heat is a central element of our efforts to significantly reduce our energy consumption. By no longer treating waste heat as an unused loss but actively integrating it into our heating system, we also reduce the need for cooling through efficient heat dissipation," explains Timo Flossbach, Strategic Sustainability Management Coordinator at VOSS.
Digital Strategy Supports Resource Conservation
This innovative approach is supported by the consistent use of renewable energy throughout the entire site. In addition, VOSS is upgrading and modernizing adjacent existing technologies, supplementing them with smart energy management solutions. This helps avoid energy-intensive new acquisitions and the associated emissions from production and disposal.
The ongoing implementation of the Digital Manufacturing Strategy enables data-driven decisions in real time. Errors can be detected and corrected early – a crucial step in minimizing resource waste and increasing efficiency.
Growth and Reconstruction Despite Challenges
The organic growth of the Wipperfürth site resulted in decentralized production areas, making centralized use of waste heat more difficult. Despite internal transparency about its own production processes, there is still optimization potential in many areas of the supply chain when it comes to standardized data. VOSS is therefore working closely with its partners to create better comparability and a stronger data foundation for its products.
The devastating flood disaster of 2021 posed immense challenges and required a comprehensive rebuilding effort. As a result, the company expanded its business continuity management to strengthen environmental protection and infrastructure safety.
Handprint Instead of Footprint: Climate Neutrality by 2035
The award-winning commitment to sustainability at VOSS is embedded within a comprehensive corporate strategy. The company aligns its business practices with a guiding principle that emphasizes the concept of a 'handprint' over a 'footprint'. The objectives are both ambitious and clearly defined: achieving climate-neutral operations by 2035 and introducing the first climate-neutral products by 2039. In doing so, VOSS actively contributes to the transformation of the industrial sector.
The company's success is guided by the core values of Hans Hermann Voss, son of the company founder and founder of the VOSS Foundation: a deep commitment to customers, passion for technology, strong ties to people, and a broad sense of responsibility for society and the environment. These principles serve as a compass to stay on course in a dynamic environment and meet the company’s social responsibilities.
