These and other key questions from our day-to-day business were at the center of a recent discussion with around 20 students from the fields of industrial engineering and computer science at TH Köln, as part of their Environmental Lecture Series.

As a company certified to ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 standards, we have been systematically improving our environmental performance for years. Supply chain responsibility and occupational health and safety measures are also certified at VOSS.
State-of-the-Art Electroplating for Environmental Protection
One outstanding example is our electroplating facility in Wipperfürth. This cutting-edge plant operates entirely without Chromium VI, significantly reduces water consumption, and features a modern air handling system with integrated scrubbers that purify exhaust air before releasing it into the environment. The coated VOSS products also contribute to environmental protection: Our sustainable corrosion protection not only reduces environmental impact but also extends product lifespan.
Waste Heat Utilization for Greater Efficiency
Another highlight of the lecture was our smart waste heat recovery system. By reclaiming and reusing production waste heat, we not only boost our energy efficiency but also actively conserve resources.
Flood Protection: Safeguarding the Environment and Operations
The devastating 2021 flood, which severely affected our operations, was used in the lecture as a real-world example of the challenges posed by climate change. As a result, we have significantly modernized our flood protection systems above and below ground. These not only protect production facilities but also prevent substances like cooling lubricants from entering the environment – a strong example of forward-thinking, responsible business practices.

VOSS has long been engaged in higher education initiatives: For example, we support the Formula Student team Ecurie Aix at RWTH Aachen in building their electric race car "Mona."
