Promoting Young Talent: Hacker School’s Premiere at VOSS

To spark young people’s interest in digital topics at an early stage, teach IT skills, and make careers in tech more tangible, the first Hacker School event at VOSS took place on April 11. What Hacker School is all about

The Hacker School is an initiative that gives young people aged 11 to 18 an introduction to the world of programming. The goal is not only to provide technical fundamentals but also to ignite enthusiasm for the diverse and creative opportunities within the IT industry. The courses require no prior knowledge and are led by experienced IT professionals—known as "Inspirers"—who share not only their technical expertise but also personal insights into their career paths and the opportunities in the IT sector.

A look at the workshop day

During the event, 30 seventh-grade students from St. Angela Gymnasium in Wipperfürth were welcomed at VOSS. Together, they used the visual programming language Scratch to develop their own version of the game "Flappy Bird." Many of the students already had impressive computer skills and worked on their projects with great enthusiasm. Although the Hacker School was originally designed as a digital format, VOSS deliberately chose to hold an in-person event. This allowed the young participants to gain hands-on experience in programming while also getting to know the company and learning about IT career paths directly on site.

Looking ahead: What’s next for the Hacker School at VOSS

The overwhelmingly positive feedback reinforces our commitment to continuing this initiative. Additional events with schools from Wipperfürth are already in the works. We’re excited to once again welcome students for another programming session on April 30.
